An article published by WebMD discusses the proposal to move marijuana from Schedule I (i.e., heroin and LSD) to III (i.e., steroids and some combinations of acetaminophen-codeine). CAPC's Andrew Esch, MD, MBA, was quoted in the article, saying that he thinks it is a step in the right direction for people living with serious illness.

Per Dr. Esch, "Patients are savvy, and they know how to work the internet. If I suggest medical marijuana, they look it up and see that it’s classified the same as heroin, and they get very, very scared,” he said. “This reclassification, when they see it listed with things like Tylenol with codeine, it becomes a lot less scary to them.”
