$12.5M for Palliative Care Research Included in FY24 Appropriations Bill
On March 21, 2024, the Patient Quality of Life Coalition (PQLC) received confirmation that its FY24 request for palliative care research funding for the National Institute on Aging (NIA) would be included in the annual appropriations package. Explanatory language from the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriations bill is as follows:
Palliative Care Research. The agreement includes $12,500,000 for NIA to implement a trans-Institute, multi-disease strategy to focus, expand, and intensify national research programs in palliative care as described in Senate Report 118-84.
If passed into law, funding would help support critical research in palliative care, building on the recent victory of a new “Consortium for Palliative Care Research Across the Lifespan” at the National Institutes of Health.
