A qualitative study found that caregivers of CMC experience intense and often conflicting positive and negative changes to their emotional well-being.

A study published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management explores the emotional well-being of family caregivers for CMC. Researchers uncovered that these caregivers experience a wide range of intense and often conflicting emotions, which can happen concurrently or on their own. These emotions, which were grouped into themes including deep reward vs. sadness, increased vs. decreased emotional regulation ability, and psychological strength vs. exhaustion and defeat, mirror findings well-documented among other high-intensity caregiver populations. This suggests that existing evidence-based interventions could be adapted for this population, such as peer navigation and psychoeducational interventions.
