Study which sought to increase palliative care consults in the outpatient setting via an intervention shows promise to scale.

In a study published in JAMA Network Open, researchers sought to determine if an algorithm-based default embedded in the electronic health record (EHR) would increase palliative care consults for people living with cancer in an outpatient setting. The results show that this intervention significantly increased palliative care consultation, and suggest the ability to scale this strategy in order to increase referrals.
