New leadership curriculum equips fellows with essential skills in emotional intelligence, team management, and more.

An article published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society examines the impact of a one-year national leadership curriculum, designed for geriatrics and palliative care fellows. The pilot program, which includes in-person and webinar-based training, was created and implemented in response to identified gaps in leadership training within fellowship programs, and the changing workforce. Results show the program was helpful for boosting emotional intelligence, team management, goal setting, and well-being skills, leading to 64% of participants planning to pursue administrative and educational leadership roles. The authors recommend this training be implemented to other post-graduate medical training programs due to the universal nature of the leadership skills covered.
