Referral Versus Embedded Palliative Care Consultation Among People Hospitalized with Heart Failure
An article published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management sought to compare the use of an embedded palliative care nurse practitioner within a heart failure team to a traditional palliative care referral for a consult. The authors of the study found that inpatients who received an embedded consult were younger, had a lower illness severity, and had higher functional status compared to those who received a referral-based consult.
