National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM)
Founded in 1970 as the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) is one of three academies that make up the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies) in the United States. NAM is an independent, evidence-based scientific advisor with the goal of being the most reliable source for credible scientific and policy advice on matters concerning human health. The organization identifies and generates momentum around critical issues in health, and inspires action through collaboration and public engagement.
CAPC Founder, Director Emerita and Strategic Medical Advisor, Dr. Diane Meier, was elected to membership in NAM in 2013. CAPC CEO Brynn Bowman is a member of NASEM’s Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness, which CAPC has served on and supported since its launch in 2016. The Roundtable seeks to identify successful models for improving care for people living with serious illness, and to raise awareness of these models with policymakers, the public, and health care professionals.
