Ketamine for Pain Management in Palliative Care: Building on Clinical Experience and Evolving Evidence
WHEN
-
Tuesday, June 24 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET
Following our 2021 session on the use of ketamine in palliative care, this Interprofessional Grand Rounds session will provide an in-depth, case-based discussion on the latest evidence, evolving clinical practices, and real-world applications of ketamine for pain management in serious illness. As a potent N-Methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, ketamine continues to be explored as an adjunct analgesic, particularly in cases of opioid-resistant and refractory pain. While its role in palliative care is expanding, questions remain regarding optimal dosing strategies, patient selection, and safety considerations.
In this interactive session, Drew Rosielle, MD, and Christina M. Weikamp, NP, will review the latest research and clinical updates on ketamine for pain management in palliative care. They will also discuss emerging protocols related to dosing, frequency, and routes of administration, and present complex case studies highlighting both the benefits and challenges of ketamine use. Additionally, they will provide practical guidance for integrating ketamine into palliative care practice while balancing efficacy and risk.
This session is designed for palliative care clinicians seeking to refine their approach to managing complex pain syndromes with ketamine.
