Practical Approaches to Providing Emotional PPE: Ideas from a Chief Wellness Officer
Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on the emotional well-being of health care workers. Practicing personal resiliency techniques undoubtedly helps. But, health care professionals also need their institutions’ support in addressing the unprecedented stress and strain the workforce is experiencing.
Amy Frieman, MD, MBA, FAAHPM, former Medical Director of Palliative Care Services for the Hackensack Meridian Health Network and now its Chief Wellness Officer, will discuss practical ways health care organizations can provide emotional PPE. She’ll differentiate the types of support that health care workers need when in the midst of crisis versus when the crisis subsides and new feelings emerge. She’ll also offer insights on ways palliative care teams can support their colleagues, citing examples of how palliative care’s unique skills and practices can benefit organizational efforts to protect employee well-being.
