Academic Physicians - Pediatric Palliative Care

Salary Range: Assistant Professor: $180,000 - $200,000 per year; Associate Professor: $205,000 - $280,000 per year; Professor: $225,000 - $290,000 per year

The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care Medicine, seeks full-time faculty members at any rank for its growing Palliative Care Service. Appointees will provide consultation on inpatient and select outpatient areas with a focus on care of children with life-limiting illness. Other duties include active contribution to teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and fellows, nursing staff, and faculty, as well as scholarly activity. Opportunities for leadership roles may be available to candidates with appropriate skills or experience. The Palliative Care Team is housed in the Section of Pediatric Critical Care, which has 16 full-time faculty members, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a 30 bed PICU. The Section also runs the Pediatric Sedation and Palliative Care Services. Faculty members are actively involved in research, quality improvement, and medical education initiatives. The PICU has approximately 1600 annual admissions with continued annual increase in volume over the past 5 years. We are the only level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago and the hospital is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a national honor that recognizes nursing excellence. Additionally, we are an ELSO Center of Excellence at the Gold Level.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree(s); 2) have or be eligible for permanent medical licensure in the State of Illinois; and 3) be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Palliative Medicine.
