"I'm just really grateful for my palliative care team. I feel really lucky and fortunate to have such great doctors and nurses that support me, and I'm not afraid anymore."

Richard's Diagnosis: Richard is a 74-year-old man living with HIV/AIDS for over 40 years, and a survivor of anal cancer for 33 years.

Richard's Palliative Care Story: When Richard was first diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 1985, he was shocked and scared. The later diagnosis of anal cancer added to his stress. After reaching a point where he no longer wanted invasive procedures or surgeries, Richard’s chronic and uncomfortable conditions led his primary care doctor to connect him with his palliative care team.

The team discussed his non-surgical treatment options and provided support for his anxiety. They have also helped manage his pain. Richard’s favorite thing about his palliative care team is that he feels truly seen, heard, and well taken care of.
