Eberechi Nwogu-Onyemkpa, MD, MHS
Dr. Eberechi Nwogu-Onyemkpa is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and an adult palliative care physician at Washington University in St. Louis. Previously, she was a faculty member in the Section of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She received her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Nwogu-Onyemkpa completed her residency in internal medicine with a global health track at the University of Pennsylvania and underwent fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Nwogu-Onyemkpa is passionate about interventions aimed at increasing the use of palliative care and hospice services among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Her research aims to explore the impact of integrating palliative care into sickle cell disease management using both qualitative and quantitative methods. She focuses on identifying palliative care models that are specifically tailored to the unique needs of individuals with sickle cell disease. She was recently awarded the Sojourns Scholar Leadership Program grant by the Cambia Health Foundation for which she will complete a project entitled, “Defining the Role of Palliative Care in Sickle Cell Disease.”
