Katie Fitzgerald Jones, PhD, ACHPN, CARN-AP
Katie Fitzgerald Jones, PhD, ACHPN, CARN-AP is a Nurse Scientist and practicing Palliative and Addiction Nurse Practitioner within the New England Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center at VA Boston Healthcare System. Her clinical and research interests include improving substance use disorder, pain management, and quality of life of older adults and people with serious illness. Her diverse clinical experiences include palliative care inpatient and outpatient consultation, addiction and chronic pain interdisciplinary clinic team member, developing a sustainable Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and creating an innovative palliative care program for older adults at Hebrew Senior Life, New Bridge on the Charles. Dr. Jones is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and has been an active member of the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care for the past ten years. Her research program has been funded by the Foundation of Addiction Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the National Institute of Nursing Research. Awards from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse Foundation, American Academy of Nursing, Department of Veterans Affairs, and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners have recognized Dr. Jones's scholarship. Dr. Jones’ work is featured in high-impact journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA oncology, Journal of Palliative Medicine, JAMA Forum, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Nursing Outlook, and Cancer. She has authored several book chapters and is an invited speaker on the GeriPal podcast on the intersection between palliative care and substance use disorders. Dr. Jones's expertise is sought nationally with key contributor to chronic pain, buprenorphine, and opioid safety resources for the Center to Advance Palliative Care, Palliative Care Quality Collaborative, and Provider Clinical Support System (PCSS).
