Rev. Dr. Tyrone Pitts
Rev. Dr. Tyrone S. Pitts presently serves as the general secretary emeritus of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. He is president and CEO of Bridges International LLC, a consultant service for Peace with Justice. Dr. Pitts is the co-chair of the Coalition to Transform Advance Care’s Interfaith Working Group and the Equity Task Force and is a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Caring Health. He presently serves as the ecumenical officer of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc., and is a member of the Central Committee of the World Council Of Churches headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also the executive director of the Progressive National Baptist Convention’s Community Development Corporation Inc., which is presently constructing a 93-unit low and moderate income housing unit on the headquarters campus of the Progressive National Baptist Convention in Washington, DC.
Dr. Pitts was the former chair of the Board of Directors of the Morehouse School of Religion, the New Baptist Covenant, and the Baptist Joint Committee. He also served as general secretary of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. in Washington, DC for 20 years. As general secretary, he was the chief operation officer of the Convention.
Dr. Pitts received his bachelor’s of science degree in fine arts education and philosophy from Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA. He attended Virginia Union Theological Seminary and Colgate Rochester, Bexley Hall, Crozer Divinity School, where he received his master’s of divinity degree. He later received his doctor of ministry degree in church management from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.
