Susan Cohen, MD, FAAHPM
Dr. Cohen graduated from Icahn School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. She joined the staff at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in 2000 as a primary care physician with an interest in Palliative Care, going on to complete board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2005. Dr. Cohen joined Bellevue Hospital Center and the faculty of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2008 as Bellevue's Director of Palliative Care. Since joining Bellevue/NYU Dr. Cohen served as the co-chair of the NYC Health and Hospitals (NYC H+H) Corporation Palliative Care Council from 2009-2016 and is now system lead for palliative care. She has served on the Bellevue Bioethics and Schwartz Rounds Committees, Greater NY Hospital Association Palliative Care Leadership Network and CAPC advisory board for CAPC- IPAL Outpatient Project. She was named a fellow in the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is a co-founders of the Safety Net special interest group within the Academy. She is part of an inaugural group of AAHPM Next Gen mentors for URiM trainees interested in palliative care and has served on the Nominating Committee. She was awarded the NYC H+H Doctors Day award in 2018 and has led the Bellevue Palliative Care Program development of their robust inpatient and outpatient clinical programs, an EOL care unit, and creation of the NYU fellowship and successful Joint Commission Certification.
