Tremayne Cunningham, MS, CCDP

Tremayne Cunningham is the System Vice-Chair of Administration and Finance for the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine with over 30 years of experience in healthcare administration. In partnership with the System Chair, she is responsible for administrative, clinical, research, academic, financial and strategic initiatives across the system. In 2024, for the fifth year in a row, the Department earned the U.S. News & World Report’s No. 1 spot in the nation in Geriatrics among the nation’s elite hospitals.

Tremayne joined Mount Sinai in 1996 as a Medical Secretary with the Department of Pediatrics where she worked her way up the ranks. In 2006, she became the Director of Operations, focusing on process improvements for ambulatory services. Tremayne was successful in improving clinical revenue, patient access, staffing ratios and retention, space utilization, clinical workflows, provider productivity, and patient satisfaction. In 2017, she was tapped to simultaneously take on operations for the Department of Neurology.

Over the years, Tremayne has mentored many young women who have gone on to become successful leaders at Mount Sinai. Her professional interests include improving diversity, equity and inclusion in healthcare. She is currently collaborating with Girls, Inc. of Long Island to create a pathway for girls age 11-18 into healthcare. Tremayne’s goal is to create internships at Mount Sinai that will introduce young women particularly to science and medicine, areas underrepresented by women of color.

In service to her community, Tremayne is a Court Appointed Child Advocate (CASA) – a trained community volunteer appointed by a Family Court Judge to represent the best interests of children in court while in foster care. CASA volunteers advocate for children who are victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment, making sure that they receive all court-appointed resources during a very traumatic time in their young lives. Additionally, she is a member of the Wayne YMCA Board of Managers, where she works to ensure that all families, children and seniors have the opportunity to experience the Y, regardless of their ability to pay, with access to all the amazing programs and resources the Y has to offer.
